Visit to Indian Red Cross Blood Bank
Students
from various major and minor streams visited the Indian Red Cross Blood Bank as
part of a field trip organized by B. Nagajyothirmai, the head of the
Biochemistry department on 28th September 2024. We obtained prior
permission from the Principal, and faculty members Dr. B. Sreedevi, Dr. P.
Giridhar, and G.L.N. Prasad accompanied us.
Before
the visit, we gathered for a group photo with a banner in the background. We
then took an auto-rickshaw to the blood bank, where we received a warm welcome
from the staff. Dr. Prakash, a young and dynamic physician, provided an
insightful presentation on various aspects of blood bank management, including
blood group determination, cross-matching, and measuring patients' blood
pressure.
We
toured the different labs and learned about techniques for storing plasma and
blood cells. Inspired by Dr. Prakash’s presentation, two of our students and I
decided to donate blood, contributing 350 ml each. This marked my 50th blood
donation, making the visit not only educational but also personally meaningful.
Overall, the field trip was a grand success and served a significant purpose.
