The following is a review of the three-day training session conducted for Field Trainers for Census 2027, held from 23rd March to 26th March 2026.

The programme was inaugurated on 23rd March 2026 by the District Collector, Sri O. Anand, IAS. The inaugural session was graced by the District Revenue Officer, Sri Malola, the Revenue Divisional Officer, Sri Keshava Naidu, and other dignitaries.

The technical sessions that followed were effectively handled by the Master Trainers—Lakshmi Kala, Dr. S. Kiran, and  G. L. N. Prasad. The sessions were highly interactive and were delivered using visual aids such as PowerPoint presentations and videos.

The training covered key aspects including the historical significance of the Census, important concepts and definitions, use of the HLO App, HLB procedures, preparation of layout maps, and the etiquette to be followed by enumerators during fieldwork.

The hospitality extended during the training programme was commendable, both in terms of quality and service.

On 26th March 2026, fieldwork was conducted to simulate the process of enumeration, providing trainees with hands-on experience. The valedictory session was attended by the DRO, Sri Malola, who offered constructive guidance to the participants.

The training programme concluded with a group photograph, marking the successful completion of the session.

Census 2027: Master Trainers' Training Programme

I deem it an honour and privilege to be part of Census 2027 as one of the Master Trainers, along with Dr. S. Kiran and Sri P. Jayachandra, who also happen to be my close friends. The training programme was conducted at APHRDI, Mangalagiri, from 11th March to 14th March 2026.

All three of us boarded the Dharmavaram–Machilipatnam Train on 10th March 2026 and reached APHRDI at 6:30 a.m. the following morning. The accommodation arranged for us was very comfortable and well maintained.

The training programme commenced with a keynote address by Sri J. Nivas, IAS, Director of Census Operations and Citizen Registrations. After the inaugural session, the regular training sessions began. All participants were divided into two teams. We belonged to Team–2, identified by blue tags, and our National Trainers were Sri Srikanth and Sri Srinivas. Both trainers deserve special appreciation for their clarity, dedication, and effective training methods.

During the programme, we received comprehensive inputs on several important aspects of Census 2027, including:

  • The unique features of Census 2027, particularly its digital mode of operation
  • The historical perspective and evolution of the Census
  • The training hierarchy for conducting the Census
  • The major phases of Census operations, such as House Listing and Population Enumeration
  • Key concepts used in Census 2027, including:
    • House Listing Block
    • Building
    • Census House
    • Household
    • Normal and Institutional Households
  • Guidelines for preparing layout maps
  • Procedures for accurately filling the House Listing and Housing Census Schedule
  • Installation and operation of the HLO Training App
  • Etiquette and conduct expected from enumerators during field work

On the final day of the training, we were taken for a field visit to gain hands-on experience as enumerators. This practical exposure was both fascinating and empathetic, helping us better understand the real-world challenges and responsibilities involved in census work.

The programme concluded with a Valedictory Session, during which participation certificates were distributed to all trainees. I would like to specially appreciate the efforts of the APHRDI and Census Department teams for their excellent coordination and commitment in making the programme a grand success.

The hospitality extended by the organisers was exceptional. A wide variety of dishes were thoughtfully served during breakfast, lunch, and dinner, reflecting the warmth and care of the hosts.

Overall, the training programme proved to be highly informative, professionally enriching, and personally memorable.
