Evaluation of Short Term Internship
Date: 30th June 2026
Today, I participated as
the External Examiner for the evaluation of the short-term internship
undertaken by the Microbiology students mentored by Dr. H. Pallavi and Dr. K.
Vanaja. During the evaluation, I assessed the internship work and presentations
of nearly 20 mentees who had completed their internships in various
organizations.
The primary objective of
the internship evaluation was to assess not only the technical knowledge gained
by the students but also the professional competencies they developed during
their internship. The evaluation focused on several key aspects: understanding
workplace culture, particularly for students who completed their internships in
offline mode; recognizing the importance of professional communication and
positive body language; developing the ability to concentrate on assigned tasks
and enhance practical skills through hands-on experience; and acquiring
essential professional attributes such as time management, resource management,
and crisis management.
A majority of the mentees
had completed their internships in the field of Medical Coding, while others
had chosen emerging domains such as Cyber Security and Data Analysis. The
students presented their internship experiences confidently, demonstrating the
knowledge and practical exposure they had gained during their training.
Serving as an External
Examiner was a rewarding learning experience. Interacting with the mentees and
evaluating their work provided valuable insights into current industry-oriented
internship opportunities, emerging career pathways, and the practical skills
expected by employers. The exercise also reinforced the importance of
experiential learning in enhancing students' employability, confidence, and
overall professional development.
