Govt Degree College, Bukkapatnam, Satya Sai District
Review Report of Academic Audit
Date: 11th
march 2025
As per the instructions
from the CCE, Dr. Akshuthanandh and I visited Govt. Degree College, Bukkapatnam
in the Satya Sai District on March 11, 2025. I personally feel privileged to
have been a part of the academic audit and to serve as an academic adviser, as
this role offers valuable opportunities for interaction with academicians from
other institutions. As usual, our visit resulted in fruitful discussions with
faculty members and students.
Govt. Degree College,
Bukkapatnam was established in 1984 and has been providing commendable
educational services for the past 41 years. However, the college lacks its own
building and currently operates within a school complex, which remains a
significant drawback. Additionally, the absence of 12B status has prevented the
institution from seeking NAAC accreditation.
We arrived at the campus
by 10:30 AM, and after completing the necessary formalities, we gathered in a
room equipped with a digital board for the IQAC coordinator's presentation. Dr.
Raj Mahammad, the IQAC Coordinator, presented the college profile, vision,
mission, student strength, best practices, and other key information through a
PowerPoint presentation.
The college has a limited
number of regular faculty, however, contract and guest faculty members have
shown commendable dedication in delivering quality content. The library houses
approximately 2,000 books, and there are 14 functional computers available.
Unfortunately, the college lacks a Jawahar Knowledge Centre (JKC).
Despite this, the college
actively conducts field visits to places like Lepakshi and various industries,
with these activities being well-documented. Faculty members like Dr. Raj
Mahammad have demonstrated strong digital skills. The History Department has
created over 200 videos related to its subject area. One faculty member has
also served as an evaluator for state-level competitive examinations in both
Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The Telugu Department is vibrant, actively
engaging in various initiatives. Additionally, all lecturers have diligently
updated their teaching notes and diaries without gaps.
Student progression to
higher education currently stands at less than 15%, which requires focused
improvement. The faculty has shown remarkable enthusiasm in designing and
implementing an effective admission drive by interacting with students and
teachers at Junior Colleges. Encouragingly, previous suggestions made by
academic advisers have been implemented to a large extent. Faculty members
demonstrate strong team spirit, and the coordination between administrative and
teaching staff is evident, largely due to the efforts of the Principal and Dr.
Ravi Kumar, the Vice Principal.
All lecturers submitted
the completed Format III, and we also interacted with students during our
visit.
Strengths of the College:
1. Well-coordinated
faculty members
2. Dedicated
staff and Principal
Weaknesses of the
College:
1. Lack
of its own building
2. Unregistered
alumni association
3. Absence
of digital and interactive boards
4. No
JKC facility
5. Absence
of Science Courses
6. Few
regular staff members
Opportunities:
1. Proximity
to Prashanthi Nilayam, which offers employment potential as it is a tourist hub
2. A
new building is under construction
Challenges:
1. Strong
competition from private colleges
2. Parental
complacency towards education
3. A
significant proportion of students come from economically disadvantaged
backgrounds
Despite these challenges, the team spirit and dedication of the staff are commendable. Their efforts in maintaining the college's decency and decorum are truly appreciated. As a result, we have graded the college as 'B.' All observations, both positive and negative, were discussed during the exit meeting held in the afternoon session.
